It was a birthday to remember last Saturday at Camden County Relay for Life’s Kick-off Birthday Party! This year’s theme is “A World with Less Cancer is a World with more Birthdays.” Since Big Surf is the official host again this year for Camden County’s event, we wanted to join in the festivities last weekend at Stonecrest Mall in Osage Beach.
Gil Shark made an appearance and accepted a Certificate of Appreciation from the Relay committee. He also handed out Golden Tickets to all the kids in attendance!

The committee had so many activities planned for the day. There was an opening ceremony, survivor lap, local entertainment, a cake walk in honor of the birthday theme, silent auction, bake sale and kid’s games. The mall court was adorned in birthday decor and everyone was in the spirit (noisemakers and all)!
The event was a huge success, bringing in over $850.00 for the Camden County Relay for Life!
Mark your calendars now for the 2010 Camden County Relay for Life event at Big Surf on June 4, 2010 at 5 p.m. Hope to see you here to have fun and support a very worthy cause with us!

It’s ok…you can finish it! CHRISTMAS!!!! It is around us anyway. Last weekend we attended a couple of different area celebrations of the season and, might I say, had a festive time!
Gil made his way to Christmas on the Square in Camdenton and visited with many people! He made all sorts of new friends (even new animal friends at the petting zoo)!

Mr. Camel...no, no spit
There was music, free stuff, lots of candy, the jolly man himself and, of course, our very own dancing shark! You can see the video on our YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRP3O3RPoD0.
Sunday, Gil made his way to Breakfast with Santa hosted by the Camden County Relay for Life. It was an extremely fun and successful event! Fun was had by all as crafts were made, games were played and Ol’ St. Nick showed up, along with Gil! And, to top off this awesome event, they raised over $1,000 for the American Cancer Society!

See us next Saturday at the Lake Ozark Christmas Parade!

Halloween 2009 was definitely a spooktacular one for me! I finally got out after our season ended. It was great to be with the people again and enjoy myself.
My first stop on Saturday was at Stone Crest Mall’s Kid’s Fun Fest. They had games, a costume contest and tons of fun for everyone-and what a great turn-out there was! We had everyone from ninjas to bumblebees and monsters to princesses. We gave tickets out to the wonderful costume contest winners and I even participated in some of the games…the cookie walk was my personal favorite!

Me with the cutest puppy in the world!
That evening I made my way to the First Baptist Church of Camdenton for their Trunk or Treat event. It was a blast! Everyone goes all out to decorate their cars, trucks and SUV’s. My boss, Darin, even built his own car…to go along with their theme, of course! We gave away a season pass to one lucky trick-or-treater and gave out tons of candy.

Darin with his family, Laura, Sam and Molly (they are the modern stone-age family)
All in all, Halloween turned out to be fun for everyone! I am looking forward to getting out around town for some really great Christmas celebrations…so keep checking back and I will keep you posted on where I will be!

If you had the pleasure of visiting the park in our 2009 season, you probably got to see our magnificent mascot, Gil Shark!

Gil at the 2009 Relay for Life kick-off
Gil was most certainly a hit this summer. He made many appearances, posed for numerous photos, walked miles around the park and, of course, gave hundreds of hugs. In the midst of all this fun, Gil’s plush exterior got a little icky, for lack of a better term. Not to mention the vast amount of sweat that poured inside! Yuck!

Gil with some girls at the park Summer 09
Needless to say, Gil needs a good bath, which we can’t provide here at the park. We have to send him off to Scollon Productions, the company that built Gil. The only thing left to do now is find a box big enough for him to travel in!

Columbia was the place to be on Sunday 7/19/09 for NASCAR fans…or, in particular, fans of Columbia’s very own Carl Edwards. His #99 car was on display at the Subway/Baskin Robbins on Forum Blvd. and boy, was it a hit!

Gil with Carl Edwards' car
Gil Shark was there to entertain the crowd and some people even got free tickets just by being lucky enough to be there!!! Gil posed for pictures both with and without the car. He danced and mingled amongst the crowd and was definitely a crowd-pleaser!

Gil and some new fans
If you missed him, come out to the park and you will get your chance….Gil makes appearances often and would love to meet you!

We’re having some fun on facebook this weekend. A new group has been formed, called “We Want to See the Big Surf Shark Dance at Artrageous Friday!” Please join it - we want to see how many people we can get! If you scroll to the bottom of the page there’s also a short video of the shark strutting his funky stuff in the parking lot at Sam’s and buying some toilet roll, to the general bemusement/amusement of the other shoppers!

You ought to see the funny looks a shark gets at an ice cream shop!!! People just don’t know what to think of it, but last night they saw it. We were at Baskin Robbins/Subway in the Forum Shopping Center in Columbia. It was a blast, too! The Columbia firefighters were there raising money for kids to go to Burn Camp and ice cream was only 31 cents. Servicemaster was there giving away cool things and Big Surf gave away free tickets again-40 of them!!! I hope you were there, but if not, be at Boonville’s Subway May 1st to get your chance at a golden ticket! Check back to the blog soon for some cool pictures of the shark out and about.
Missed us, huh?! You have another chance!

Did you miss the Big Surf shark at Subway in Ashland on the 23rd? It’s ok…don’t cry or anything! We will be at the Rock Bridge Shopping Center in Columbia tonight at the Subway there.
We will be there with great giveaways again and, of course, great food from Subway! You can come and eat while you have a great chance at winning free tickets to Big Surf. See the shark, eat fresh, win free stuff - what a night!! And if that weren’t all enough, it’s a fundraiser for Rock Bridge Elementary, so you’ll be helping out local schools, as well.
