Hold on to your hats… we’re planning a completely daft offer for 2010 Season Passes.
And when we say daft, we mean daft. So daft, in fact, that our bosses are only letting us run this promotion for ONE DAY ONLY. We’re not ready to release details just yet, and if you want in, you’ll need to sign up for our e-newsletter. That’s the only place where we’ll be announcing what’s going on. Intrigued?
It’ll all be kicking off in a couple of weeks.

If you had the pleasure of visiting the park in our 2009 season, you probably got to see our magnificent mascot, Gil Shark!

Gil was most certainly a hit this summer. He made many appearances, posed for numerous photos, walked miles around the park and, of course, gave hundreds of hugs. In the midst of all this fun, Gil’s plush exterior got a little icky, for lack of a better term. Not to mention the vast amount of sweat that poured inside! Yuck!

Needless to say, Gil needs a good bath, which we can’t provide here at the park. We have to send him off to Scollon Productions, the company that built Gil. The only thing left to do now is find a box big enough for him to travel in!

Wow. Hard to believe yesterday was Labor Day - another season is already over. Boy, did that go fast!
We’ve had an amazing time. It’s been a wonderful year. Not as much sunshine as we all would have wished for, certainly, but we still have some wonderful memories to keep us warm over the winter until we open again next May, and hope that you do, too.
We’ll be posting some photos of some of our favorite events on the blog in the forthcoming weeks.
Believe it or not, we have ALREADY begun to make plans for 2010, and to work out how to make Big Surf even more fun for you all! We have lots of cool things in the pipeline, including some exciting ideas to reward our most loyal guests. Keep checking back at this blog over the winter as we’ll be giving regular news updates as we develop these ideas. And, of course, we’ll be keeping our e-newsletter subscribers up to date with everything that’s going on, and offering them some exclusive offers. If you haven’t signed up yet, better do so now!

Big Surf on the Today Show!

Yes, that Today Show.
We were delighted (although, you know, not surprised or anything) that our wonderful water park appeared on NATIONAL TELEVISION this morning. There was footage of Big Surf on the Today Show as they ran down Health Magazine’s list of the top ten best places to go for a healthy beach or lake vacation this year.
We’ll find the footage and post it here as soon as we can.

More New Stuff… Introducing Big Squirt!

We’ve been so busy here at the park that we haven’t yet had time to tell you all about the new things that we’ve introduced this year. One of the things we’re excited about is that the area around the Activity Pool has now become the BIG SQUIRT ZONE.
So what are Big Squirts, you ask? Well, they are extremely cool water toys that shoot jets of water impressive distances. When inflated they look like huge colored bananas. They have a kind of nozzle at the top which allows you to switch the spray on and off, depending on whether there’s anyone you need to soak. There’s a special filling station in the Big Squirt Zone but they can also be taken home and easily filled from any tap. They’re a LOT of fun, and they’re for sale in the Gift Shop. Obviously toys like this are most fun when you have people to aim at, so the idea that we came up with is that anyone who walks over the bridge into the Big Squirt Zone is fair game. Enter, as they say, at your own risk. You never know, if you get caught, you may have to get a Big Squirt of your own and get your revenge… Anyway, it’s just one more way to have fun this summer at Big Surf!
4th of July Fun

We’re all proud patriots here at Big Surf and every Fourth of July we like to do something a little special to celebrate. This year we’ve come up with a couple of different goodies for ya.
Offer #1: Everyone who is a fan of ours on facebook can print out a voucher entitling them to TEN DOLLARS OFF an all-day pass. Not a Facebook friend? Well that’s easy enough to fix… go here to sign up.
Offer #2: We like to do extra-special things for our friends who buy season passes to the park… so on July 4 they can bring a friend to the park and pay just FOUR BUCKS to get them in. (It’s the FOURTH of July, see?)
These offers are, as they say, for one day only. But make the most of ‘em - we’d love to celebrate July 4 with you!

Phew! It’s been hot!! Not that we’re complaining, though.
We’ve been incredibly busy at the park these last few weeks, with record-breaking attendances for this time of year. Amazing what a little sunshine can do! Hard though it is to believe, it’s already nearly the end of June, and that means that some of the promotions that we’ve been running for the first part of our season are due to expire on Tuesday. So we wanted to remind you all that time is running out on these.
First off, the famous Golden Tickets which we have written about so often on this blog. We’ve been giving these little wonders away all summer at various events and as prizes for contests, and the like. They entitle the bearer (provided he or she is under 18) to a free admission to the park DURING JUNE. Got that? So if you have one of these, you need to get moving if you want your free entry!
Also, the Alpha Program ends on Tuesday. This is our way of rewarding academic excellence for our younger guests - any child in 5th Grade or below who has an “A” or equivalent on their report card gets one free entry into the park DURING JUNE. Are you seeing the pattern here?
Of course, there are still many other good offers that will stil be available throughout the summer. Our promotion with Subway is due to continue until Labor Day. And of course, if you buy your tickets online you always get a discounted price, as you do if you come as part of a group of fifteen or more.
Finally, keep an eye on our facebook page for news of a killer promotion for our facebook fans, especially for July 4.
Miss Missouri at Big Surf - the Movie

At last, here it is… a video of what went on the day that the Miss Missouri contestants came to Big Surf and cavorted about in the Wave Pool. And did we mention that we were VERY PROUD when none other than MISS LAKE OF THE OZARKS won the whole contest! She will be going to represent Missouri in the Miss America pageant! How cool is that?!?
Anyway, enjoy the video, complete with groovy surfer soundtrack.
Psst… Looking for silly discounts?

And when we say silly, we do mean silly.
Here’s the deal. Every day - or just about, anyway - we’re going to be offering discounts on tickets for the first five or ten people who do a particular (usually silly) thing. Exactly what needs to be done to get the discount will vary from day to day. Yesterday it was the first ten people to sing “You Are My Sunshine” to the staff at the attendance desk. Today you have to wear a parka. (I know. It’s 90 degrees outside. We won’t make you keep it on.)
How you find you what the day’s silly stunt is? Easy. Sign up for our Twitter feed, friend us on facebook, and visit our MySpace page as well. There are links to the first two on the right hand side of this page. All you have to do is click on them. (Don’t say we don’t make this stuff easy for you.) That’s where you’ll find what the day’s “task” is. Get here early, and get in cheap!

MAC Soccer Day - May 30, 2009

Our friends from MAC Soccer in Columbia came to the park en masse on Saturday. We reserved them an exclusive picnic area where they could safely keep their things and eat their discounted food packages in peace before going out to enjoy the water - or to enjoy some of the other special activities we put on for them.
We transformed the sand volleyball court into a soccer field for the day and organized a series of games for the various ages of guests, from U-8s to the, er, well, let’s say that there was no maximum age for the last group who played! We also arranged for a fun tug-o-war and a knock-out basketball tournament.
Additional excitement was provided by the arrival of the 28 beautiful Miss Missouri finalists in the middle of the afternoon. Who knew that this would have captivated the attention of so many soccer-crazy boys?!? Particular kudos to the kid who didn’t bother getting the ladies’ autographs on their photographs… he got them all to sign his back!
A great time was had by all. We’re already looking forward to welcoming them back next year.
